Mabel Louise Grimme

February 21, 1937 — March 11, 2018

Mabel Louise Grimme, age 81 of Ozark, passed away March 11, 2018. She was born February 21, 1937 near Corydon, Iowa, the daughter of Sears S. and Gladys (Bettis) Jones. She was born and raised on a farm. Louise attended school in a one room rural school until the 5th grade. Louise graduated from Corydon High School in Iowa in 1956. After high school, Louise attended the State Teacher's College in Kirksville, Missouri. Louise graduated with a B.A. in 1963 and began working as a social worker for Hillcrest Children's Services in Iowa. She returned to college at the University of Dubuque, majoring in Sociology. Louise joined Beta Sigma Phi in 1970 in Dubuque, Iowa. She worked in adoptions for ten years before working for the state of Iowa in social services. Louise then worked in Storm Lake, Iowa for four years before moving to the Bootheel of Missouri. She lived in Caruthersville where she was employed by the Missouri Division of Family services. In 1989 she transferred to Christian County DFS, from where she retired in 1997. Louise then worked part time at Nixa Head Start for seven years. Louise was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ozark. Louise enjoyed collecting, yard work, going to Branson shows and extensive traveling. Louise had a thirst for adventure. She traveled to many countries in Europe, working for a youth hostel in Germany. She also traveled to the Holy Land. She visited her sister in Guam as well. Her lifelong love of learning was apparent. Survivors include: two sisters, Ida Mae Wilsey of Sullivan and Karen Teater and husband Warren of Fresno, California; and her nieces and nephews. Louise was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Jimmy and Billy Jones. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 19, 2018 in First Baptist Church Ozark, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Dr. Phillip Burden officiating. Visitation will be from 9-10 A.M. Monday, March 19, 2018 immediately before the funeral in First Baptist Church Ozark. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Grubville, Missouri at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018 under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Pastor Allen Duda officiating. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Ozark.
