Opal Alene Applegate

Opal Alene Applegate, age 88, of Oldfield, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014. She was born September 24, 1926 in Gardner, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest Richard and Hazel Maude (McDaniel) Jackson. On December 31, 1945 she and James "Hobo" Applegate were united in marriage. Opal served alongside her pastor husband, Reverend Hobo Applegate, as he ministered over a wide area as an evangelist and missionary. Opal also worked for Fasco Industries for over 21 years. Opal had been Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #354, in Davenport Oklahoma, and a member of the Rebekah's. She is survived by: Two children, Truly Applegate and his wife, Judy, of Springfield, and Nona Atkinson of Oldfield; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and an uncle, Bob McDaniel Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Hobo, in 2007, a son, Forest Lane "Frosty" Applegate, an infant son, Phillip Page Applegate; her parents, and two sisters, Thelma and Nadine. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, October 3, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Rev. Dale Roller officiating. Burial will be in Old Boston Cemetery, Oldfield. Visitation will be 1:00 PM Friday until service time.
