Truman Mills

Truman Mills, age 94, of Nixa, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014, in his home. He was born November 30, 1919, in Darden, TN, to Luther and Clide (Stephens) Mills. Truman was united in marriage to Bertrice Helvey, July 7, 1945 in St. Louis. Truman was an avid Cardinals fan. As a child, he and his friends would walk miles to the old St. Louis baseball stadium to watch the cardinals from the back fence, which was 12 feet high and made of wood. They would take turns looking through the knot holes of the fence. They were known as the knot hole gang. Truman worked for the Frisco Railroad, and later the Burlington Northern Railroad, as a Chief Purchasing Agent. He retired after 41 years. During his retirement, Truman raised calves, and maintained bee hives. He was very active in his church, and was a Godly man. He was a family man, a great husband, father, and great grandfather. Truman is survived by his wife, Bertrice, of 69 years; son Roger Mills and his wife Barbara, of Sulphur, OK, Michael Mills, and his wife Deborah, of Nixa; a daughter Janet Krawitz, and her husband Steve, of Nixa; a brother Steve Mills, and his wife Dolores, of Urbana; a sister Bernice, Declue, and her husband Arbin, of Hazelwood. Truman is preceded in death by his parents; his son Richard; a brother Delton Mills; and sisters Ruby Lawrence, Carol Reeves, and Marlene Mills. A visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. Friday, October 31, 2014, at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 1, 2014, at the Nixa Nazarene Church. Burial will follow at Frazier Cemetery, Boaz. Donations in lieu flowers may be made to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, in care of Nixa Nazarene Church, 306 Northview Nixa, MO 65714. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
