Walter Donald "Don" Teaney

September 5, 1931 — June 28, 2015

Walter Donald "Don" Teaney , 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Sunday, June 28th, at his home in Nixa, Missouri, surrounded by family, after a long illness. He was born September 5, 1931 in Quincy, Illinois to Walter "Walt" Loren Teaney and Jessie Laura (Randall) Teaney. He was united in marriage to Patricia Margaret Hill December 11, 1963 at the Kingdom Hall in West Helena, Arkansas. They celebrated 51 wonderful years of marriage in 2014. He is survived by his wife Patricia "Pat" Teaney, a son, Ronald Gary Teaney and his wife, Anita, of Tampa, FL, a son, Mark Teaney and his wife Hallie, of Bath, NC, a daughter, Pamela Harp and her husband, Keith, of Nixa, MO, a daughter, Stacy Callaway and her husband Larry, of Pleasant Hope, MO, and a son Walter Michael "Mike" Teaney and his wife, Carina, of Seymour, MO. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, to whom he was a very proud "Papa," and by a host of beloved extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Paul Wesley Teaney, his parents, a brother, Ted Teaney, two half-sisters, and former wife, Ila Jeanette Swindle. He was a much loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, and was very devoted to all of those he loved. At 12, he became a caddy and soda jerk at a golf course, where his father taught him how to play, and where he began a lifelong love of golf. He won several city and base championships in his younger years, as well as a long drive contest when he was in his 60's, and played his last round of golf at the age of 79. He was even offered a golf scholarship to college, but went in another direction instead. Sailing was also a favorite past time, having once sailed through the Bermuda triangle at night in a storm. By trade, he was a salesman, primarily of RV's, but also owned several businesses over the course of his life. He always found a way to provide for his family, even when he faced obstacles. He "retired" at 65, but worked at another job, and started another business renting RV's in his late 60's, which he owned into his early 70's. His children have mentioned that he was a man of great convictions, and he lived his life by those convictions. He had a strong faith, as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and he shared his faith with everyone he knew. Until he became physically unable to, he attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Ozark, MO. He continued to share his faith from his sick bed up until the end of his life. Memorial services will be held at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Ozark, MO, at the intersection of McCracken and Hawkins Roads, on Monday, July 13th at 2:00. Dinner will follow at 4:00 at Southgate Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson's Disease research charities or your local Kingdom Hall. Cremation is under the direction of Adam's Funeral Home in Nixa, MO.
