Arvil Lee Dixon

January 13, 1944 — November 14, 2014

Arvil Lee Dixon left this world to be with his beloved Dort on Friday, November 14, 2014. He was born January 13, 1924 in Springfield, to Orvil and Octi (Hannah) Dixon. A graduate of Central High School, he married Dorothy Mae Stevenson on August 23, 1944. Their honeymoon was spent in St. Louis where they enjoyed a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game, the first of many they shared. Although he did not serve in the military, he and Dorothy soon moved to California where he contributed to the war effort by working in the ship building industry. When they returned home to the Ozarks, he began a career as a tailor and dry cleaner, and eventually went on to beauty and barber supply sales. Arvil Lee was passionate about his involvement with Boy Scouts of America, and the development of young people in the outdoors and in sports. Arvil Lee and Dorothy had two children, Denver and wife Gina of Golden, Missouri and Rebecca (Becky Messier.) He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ilene Gott and his daughter. Arvil Lee is survived by his son, five grandchildren; Chris Messier, Annette Mahannah, Richard Shuck, Brian Dixon, Leigh Ann Arturo; eight great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and his dog, Jake. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2014 in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
