Betty Bowsher

September 22, 1931 — January 7, 2021

Betty Jean Bowsher, age 89, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021. She was born during the depression on September 22, 1931 in St. Joseph, MO, the daughter of Fred and Mamie (Allcorn) Rackley. Betty began her education at Sandridge, a one room school. The family moved to rural Ozark County and Betty graduated from Gainesville High School in 1949. On September 5, 1971 she and Harold Lewis Bowsher were united in marriage at the First Christian Church in North Kansas City, MO. She received an Associate Degree in 1980 from Maplewood Community College in Kansas City, while working full time. Betty was a legal secretary, then served as Probate and Magistrate Clerk for Ozark County. After moving to Kansas City, she went to work at Kansas City Power and Light Company in a variety of positions, including executive secretary to the President and CEO of KCPL. Retiring in 1992 she and Lew moved to Sun City West, AZ, where they spent 20 years. They then moved to Nixa to be closer to family. Betty always loved people and enjoyed organizations and activities that were people oriented. She became a member of the Rebekah Lodge at the age of 18, becoming State President in 1963. She was a charter member of Chapter JP, P.E.O in Gainesville in 1964. Betty was an active member of Central Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Springfield, and its Christian Women's Fellowship. Her husband, Lew, survives Betty, as well as three sisters, Ida Mae Huse of Gainesville, Joan Young of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and Judy Vangilder and husband Tom of Jonesboro, AR; a brother, Delbert Rackley and wife Mary of Rogersville; and nieces and nephews, all of whom were very special to her. Her brother, Donald Rackley preceded her in death as well as her parents. Funeral services for Betty will be 9:30 AM Tuesday, January 12, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until service time on Tuesday. Burial will be 11:00 AM Tuesday in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. Memorial donations may be made in Betty's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
