Genevieve Horton

January 3, 1925 — October 19, 2015

Genevieve Horton quietly left this life to be with her Lord October 19, 2015 after a severe stroke. She was 90 years old, born January 3, 1925 in Witty, MO. Genevieve was one of eleven children born to Charles and Mamie Anderson. She married Floyd L. "Bud" Horton October 18, 1941, and they had two children. While Floyd served on two fronts in WWII, she cared for her children and also worked in airplane factories as a "Rosie the Riveter" in the state of Washington. After the war, they lived in Springfield, MO, where Genevieve was very active in PTA, Boy Scouts and various other clubs. In 1954, they bought a farm in Nixa, MO, as Daddy said "to get her out of town before she got clubbed to death". But in Nixa, Genevieve became active in even more groups including PTA, FFA, FHA, 4-H, Garden Club, Extension Club, American Legion Post #434 Auxiliary, and Nixa Women's Club. She and Bud were part of a group who started the original Nixa Park and were instrumental in setting it up and planting most of the trees. Genevieve was active, along with Bud at Riverdale Baptist Church. She loved to bake and deliver goodies to neighbors and friends. In later years, she never missed a week visiting the nursing homes and shut-ins. Above all, she loved her family and is survived by: son Floyd L. Horton Jr. and his wife, Dolores; daughter Patti Floyd and her husband Berl; grandchildren Karen Horton, Jeff and Missy Floyd, Stephanie and John Hassell, Heather Standaert, and Keri Myers; great-grandchildren, Zeke, Ashley, Garrett and Delainey Floyd, Shay and Thorne Hassell, Madison and Will Myers, and Anna, Jay, and Luke Standaert; and the latest star in her eyes, great-great-grandson, Dean Floyd. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd, and grandson Mike Horton. She was the last surviving member of her siblings and leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Annie Anderson, and Betty Anderson, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Special thanks goes to Stephanie and John Hassell along with Patti and Berl, Karen Horton and Brenda Martin, who have given her a beautiful last year of loving care and allowed her to live comfortably in her own home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, October 23, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Rev. Hosea Bilyeu officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials in Genevieve's name may be made to Nixa American Legion Post #434.
