Leroy Floyd Morisset

Leroy Floyd Morisset, 87, of Ozark, MO, passed away Monday, September 23, 2019, in his home with family by his side after a short illness due to cancer. Leroy was born on July 16, 1932 in Ozark, MO, to Ruby Truman and Gladys (Shipman) Morisset. He was a 1953 graduate of Ozark High School. Upon graduation, Leroy served his country in the United States Army, first in Boot Camp Training in Fort Riley, Kansas, and as a CPL in Austria and Germany for 16 � months and attached to the Tenth (10th) Mountain Infantry Division as a military skier. Leroy was a Korean War Veteran. He was privileged to be a part of the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Leroy was recognized with several achievements and awards during his service. Among those being: A Certificate of Achievement Award in the Competitive Rifle Marksman Match (the highest mark of a soldier) in Camp St. Johann, Austria in May, 1955; the Tenth (10th) Mountain Infantry Division Certificate; the National Defense Service Metal and Army Occupation Metal Award (Germany); and the Award of Good Conduct Metal while actively serving in Federal Military Service. Upon Honorable discharge, Leroy continued to serve in the Army Reserves. He was a well respected employee of Kraft Foods, Inc., in Springfield, MO, for thirty-seven and a half (37 �) years (with perfect attendance), retiring November 16, 1992. It was at Kraft, Leroy met the "love of his life", Judith Ann Mackey of Ava, MO. They were married April 22, 1956, and have been in love for sixty-three (63) years this past April 22, 2019. To this union, two children were born; Michael Leroy, and Carrie Beth. Together, Leroy and Judy did custom hay hauling in their community which their children played a vital role, and co-owned Rolling Acres Mobile Home Park, in Ozark, along with Judy's brother and sister-in-law, Nelson and Joyce Mackey. Leroy was saved, at home, at the young age of twenty-eight (28), and remained a faithful servant, serving as an usher, at the Ozark First Baptist Church for many years. One of the highlights for their family, was being an integral part of the Bi-Centennial Salute to America Singers in 1976 and touring for a month, in the country of Romania.Another special blessing for Leroy, was to serve many years as a church camp sponsor at the BMA Camp Grounds located at Greers Ferry, AR, while being with his granddaughter, Katherine Bowie, and grandson, Shawn Bowie. Also, Leroy and Judy thoroughly enjoyed going on trips/outings with the Senior Adult Group from their church, and watching Katherine and Shawn play softball, baseball and basketball, and attending those same type games at Ozark, College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, MO, and throughout Southwest MO. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, Harrison Fealix and Dora Ethel (Harville) Morisset; maternal grandparents, Isaac "Ike" L. and Lydia Bell (Garrison) Shipman; brothers, Roscoe Harrison Morisset (infant), and Richard Lee Morisset; brothers-in-law, Marvin Chance, Harlin, Franklin and Sturman Mackey; and nephews, Richard Lee "Rick" Morisset, Randy Lynn Morisset, and Gregory Allan Mackey. Leroy is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; son, Michael Leroy Morisset, Springfield, MO, Carrie Beth Bowie and husband, Nathan; grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth (Bowie) Hudson and husband, Mason; and Shawn Marshal Bowie, all of Greenbrier, AR, and Leroy and Judy's first great grandson, George Barrett Hudson (born September 10, 2019); sister, Barbara Chance, Ava, MO, brother-in-law, Nelson Mackey and wife, Joyce, Ozark, MO, sister-in-law, Ruby Jane Burton and husband, Larry, Ozark, MO, sisters-in-law, Louise Mackey, Independence, MO, and Judith Marie Mackey, Prairie Grove, AR, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be Saturday, September 28, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at Ozark First Baptist Church, Ozark, MO, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Pastors Phillip Burden, Blake Hayworth and David Hicks. Visitation will also take place at the church on Friday, September 27, 2019, from 6 - 8 p.m. Following the service, burial will be in the Weaver Cemetery, North State Highway NN, Ozark, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Ozark First Baptist Church, 1400 West Jackson Street, Ozark, MO 65721.
