Louie "Roy" Coffer

December 1, 1933 — December 3, 2015

Louie Roy Coffer's spirit was set free December 3, 2015 and he took the Lord's hand and went home. He passed peacefully with his family at his side. Roy lived his life to the fullest enjoying his family by blood, marriage and by his Savior's blood as well as a host of friends that were like family. He was a true Ozark's Mountain man enjoying being outdoors more than being in doors. Roy enjoyed hunting coons, deer, turkey, squirrel, quail and in his younger years big bear in Washington State. He spent many hours, days and weeks with his family on the creek banks fishing and enjoying many adventures as well as making memories with his family. Roy enjoyed trapping and selling furs not only as a source of income to support his family, but simple for the time that he got to spend outdoors living off the land. He also enjoyed going to the woods and digging roots and selling them plus using them to treat his family's illnesses. Often in the last few years of his life when his body began to fail him and he could no longer enjoy these activities of the mountain man life style that he loved you could go over to visit him at his house that he shared with his lovely bride of 60 years and you would find him sitting outside in his chair with his cowboy hat on that had once been wore by his only son. He loved to just sit outside under his shade tree and watch nature as well as take naps even in the hundred degree weather. He loved reading his bible and taking about God's word to anyone. Roy loved going to church more than anything else in life and often checked himself out of the hospital long enough to go to church and then he would go back and check by into the hospital after services. Roy selflessly sacrificed many things in his life to bring happiness to others. Sometime even giving up eating supper at night time just so his family would have food to eat even though he had worked hard that day. Roy also served as an Ambassador from the North Pole for over 60 years bringing so much joy, happiness and memories to thousands of people. He enjoyed the laughter and the warm homes of all the families that he visited and his family enjoyed all of the shared moments. Roy was preceded in death by his father Robert Coffer and his mother Jewel Coffer, a still born sister, his son Michael Coffer, a brother Larkin Coffer, a granddaughter Heather Shockey and a son-in-law Marvin Whiteman. Roy was survived by his wife Connie Coffer of the home in Oldfield, a daughter Kathy Jackson and her husband Garry Jackson of Sparta, a daughter Jacque Whiteman of Ava, grandchildren Jeremiah Shockey, Sam Shockey, Caleb Shockey, and Stephanie Whiteman. Many great grandchildren, brothers Tommy Coffer, Leonard "Red" Coffer, Lloyd Coffer and their spouses as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, in-laws, lots of other family and friends that he loved with all his heart. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
