Roberta Hurd

July 26, 1938 — January 6, 2018

Mother, Daughter, Sister, Friend… Roberta was known for her million-watt smile and her incredibly deep dimples. She was known as Roberta, Bertsie, Mommers and Granny Bob. She was an amazing woman who knew how to sew a quilt, twirl a baton, fry frog legs, and even polka! Roberta was born on July 26, 1938 in Springfield, Missouri, and died at her home on January 6, 2018, leaving a legacy of caring and giving. She was a member of Asbury Methodist Church and a regular volunteer with Crosslines, an organization dedicated to supporting families in crisis through food assistance and clothing vouchers. Roberta married Harvey Hurd in Springfield Missouri in 1956 and they lived in Lenexa, Kansas for 30 years until their lake retirement in Stockton, Missouri. They had two beautiful daughters, Tracy and Sheryl. Roberta was preceded in death by both Harvey and Tracy. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lois Hayter, and her sisters, Jo Metz and Kay Rutledge. Roberta is survived by her daughter, Sheryl (Hurd) Gunn and son-in-law, Doug Gunn of Colorado Springs, Colorado and her sister, Peggy Hayter of Springfield, Missouri. She also leaves behind many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as her dear friends Sylvia, Bev, Alenna and so many more. Donations to the Crosslines Food Pantry (615 N. Glenstone, Springfield, MO 65802; 417-869-0563) would be an incredible gift in Roberta's memory. A visitation/remembrance will be held on Monday, January 15th from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Asbury Methodist Church, 1500 S. Campbell Ave, Springfield, in the Fellowship Hall. Floral arrangements may be delivered to the church.
