Ruth Ellen Zieger Marshall

Ruth Ellen Zieger Marshall, age 96 of Nixa, passed away December 13, 2017 at Bradford Court Assisted Living in Nixa. Ruth was born December 29, 1920 in Nixa. She was the first of four children born to Clyde and Margaret Frances (Hopkins) Harp. She attended Nixa Schools, graduating as valedictorian of her class. Ruth attended SMS and graduated from Southern Illinois University. She taught two years at Nixa and later at District 118 in Belleville, Illinois until her retirement. Ruth was united in marriage to James Bertram Zieger from St. Louis while he was in the U.S. Army. When he was discharged, they made their home in Belleville where they raised their son James B. Zieger, Jr. After retirement they moved back to Nixa and enjoyed traveling, fishing and just being "home." Bert preceded Ruth in death on September 9, 1988. Ruth continued to travel with friends, and on one trip met an Englishman, Graham Marshall who she married. They made their home first in London and then in a new home in Nixa. Ruth often remarked that she felt very blessed. She was a charter member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church which formed in January of 1988. Active in the church, Ruth enjoyed participating in the choir and other church activities. Ruth donated the church's first piano in memory of Bert. Ruth is survived by her son, James B. Zieger, Jr. of Raleigh, North Carolina; step children Peter and wife Rosie Marshall of London, England and Lynn and husband Adrian Coppin of Surrey, England. Other survivors include a sister, Jean Logan, Nixa; sister in law, Sue Harp, Nixa; nephews and nieces, Jon and Sandy Gullet, Oklahoma, Cheryl and Joe Pruitt and Kevin and Pam Harp, all of Nixa; and several great and great great nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Gladys Gullet and a brother, Wesley Harp. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2017 in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Dennis Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Glenn Cemetery, Nixa. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home immediately before the service.
